Alejandro Calderón worked as a licensed civil engineer in Costa Rica for over three years on structural design projects, ranging from design and inspection of industrial facilities to seismic retrofit of patrimonial structures. He graduated from the IUSS program of Understanding and Managing Extremes (UME) with a master’s degree in Earthquake Engineering and Seismology. He worked afterwards as a consultant on catastrophe modelling and physical risk assessment for the Superintendence of Insurances of Costa Rica (SUGESE) and the Global Earthquake Model Foundation (GEM). Currently he is a researcher and PhD candidate at the IUSS and UME School in Pavia.
