Andrés Abarca studied civil engineering at the University of Costa Rica. Afterwards, he graduated with a master’s degree in Earthquake Engineering from the Erasmus MEEES program after completing courses in the Université Grenoble des Alpes (France) and IUSS Pavia (Italy). Andrés also obtained a second master in science in structural engineering from the University of Costa Rica, graduating with honors. On the professional side, Andrés has worked as a Project Manager, a Structural Inspector and a Structural Designer for several private firms in Costa Rica. Before enrolling in to his PhD, he worked as a researcher and interim professor for the University of Costa Rica, teaching courses of Mechanics of Solids and Structural Design. Within IUSS, in parallel to the PhD, he currently works as a researcher for the ITERATE Project for the development of a seismic risk platform for Algeria.
